Police are calling on members of the public if they see children involved in any potentially life-threatening activity to step in and speak to them.

This was highlighted by the Divisional Police Commander South and Senior Superintendent of Police Wate Vocevoce after some residents of Kalabu raised their concerns that several students from various schools in Suva were seen skipping school and swimming at the waterfall beside the Kalabu Village for the past three weeks.

The residents also highlighted on social media that this trend has been going on and something needs to be done before the drowning incident that happened in 2016 is repeated.

SSP Vocevoce says members of the public need to intervene and speak up if they see school children visiting the Kalabu waterfalls because if a tragedy occurs, it will be too late.

He is urging parents and guardians to be aware and alert on the whereabouts of their children and what they are up to and to continuously talk to their children to head straight home after school.

He adds their officers will be patrolling the area, and members of the public should play their part when they see something happening, particularly where children are concerned.

SSP Vocevoce stressed that we all need to work together in safeguarding the lives of our children.
