A police officer has been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and rape involving a relative aged between 13 and 16 years old.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Crime Mesake Waqa says the officer is alleged to have sexually assaulted the victim on several occasions at various locations in the Central and Eastern Divisions between 2019 and 2023.
ACP Waqa says the report was handled by the Criminal Investigations Department’s Sexual Offenses Unit and upon completion, independent legal advice was sought from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The officer has been charged with nine counts of sexual assault, three counts of rape, and one count of defilement of a person aged between 13 and 16 years.
He will appear at the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
