Police Blue still in contention to retain Marist 7s title while Yamacia is out

Defending champions Police Blue is still in contention for the main cup competition at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s after beating Samurai Navatulevu Sharks 27-7 in the elimination round this morning.

A fit-looking Police captain Kalione Nasoko scored their first try from the kick-off and was instrumental in setting up the other tries.

Uliano Cokanauto, Iferemi Tovilevu and Uraia Ratu also grabbed a try each for Police.

Police Blue now progress to round 2 of eliminations where they will face Maravu Taveuni.

Winners from Round 2 of eliminations will then advance to the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Yamacia is out of the cup competition after losing to Kombat Uluinakau 10-5 in the elimination round.

Yamacia has the services of nationals 7s reps and brothers, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Kavekini Tabu and Isoa Tabu.

The quarterfinals will kick off at 1:25 pm today.

The winner in the men's competition will get $15,000 while the runner up gets $5,000.

In other results, Blue Diamond defeated Pacific Warriors Nairai 22-5, Wardens Gold thrashed Waimanu Gold 29-0, Navutulevu edged Marist 19-17, Dominion Brothers beat New Born Waibasaga 12-0, FDS Barbarians thrashed Seniboro Blues 33-0, Ratu Filise beat Uprising 17-14 and Raiwasa Resort Taveuni defeat Jussi Buinivai 17-7.
