Cockroaches - plenty of them !

That’s what passengers found crawling next to them in a Raiwaqa Bus servicing the Raiwai route yesterday but the bus company is today calling it an isolated incident caused by people dumping their rubbish in the bus.

Photos and videos of the bus infested with cockroaches taken by a passenger who boarded the bus in Nabua and got off in Raiwai has been widely shared on Facebook.

Raiwaqa Buses Limited Chief Executive Officer Krishan Kumar told Fijivillage he has talked to his Manager to inspect the bus in question.

Kumar says usually their buses get cleaned every night but since the buses are running every night, they skip a day.

He says at a minimum a bus is cleaned four times a week.

Kumar stresses that he is very concerned about their service to their customers and that is why their fleet is always new.

He says they need the help of the public to stop people from throwing their leftover food and other rubbish under the seats.

Kumar says some people are not only dumping their left over food under the seats but also damage the seats, remove the seat covers and sponge.

He says they are using about $50,000 in a year to replace the damages being done by people.
