Not everything should be free from the government as parents should also be given responsibilities to carry on their shoulders in terms of paying for some of their children’s school accessories like textbooks.

This was highlighted by the Vice Principal of Baulevu High School during the Education Act 1966 consultation that was held at the Nausori Parish Hall.

The Vice Principal says there are many things that the current generation is taking advantage of as far as the Free Education Grant is concerned.

He says some of these things include parents not having to pay the school fees, textbooks, and transport to school for the students.

He adds everything is made easy by the government which has been taken advantage of by children these days.

The Vice Principal says at the end of the year, most of the students lose the textbooks provided to them by the schools because they were not taken care of.

He says there are so many issues regarding free textbooks handed out to these students, and he believes that could be the story of all the schools around the country.
