Fiji’s Pacific Polytech and India’s National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology have signed a Memorandum of Understanding today in New Delhi, India strengthening ICT and electronics training in Fiji and the wider Pacific region.
The agreement was officially exchanged by Fiji’s High Commissioner to India, Jagannath Sami, and India’s Secretary (South), Dr Nina Malhotra marking a significant step towards enhanced collaboration in advanced ICT and electronics training, addressing the region’s growing demand for highly skilled professionals.
The MOU agreement aims to encourage more joint programmes, hands-on skills training, and digital capacity-building initiatives aligned with international standards.
It is expected to contribute to Fiji’s long-term goal of developing a knowledge-driven economy.
Fiji’s Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, and India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, attended the ceremony, highlighting the strategic importance of the partnership at the highest level of government.
Pacific Polytech Director, Peni Taoi, says the partnership will expand opportunities for both students and staff.
He emphasizes that India is a global leader in IT and electronics,adding India is a global leader in IT and electronics, and Fiji looks forward to the implementation of the MoU.
Taoi says that Pacific Polytech’s focus on hands-on training will be strengthened through the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and technology.
Ahead of today’s event in India, a ceremonial signing was held at Pacific Polytech’s Nabua Campus on 20 August, signalling the institution’s preparedness to begin implementing the agreement.
