Residents of Pacific Harbour can breathe a sigh of relief as the National Fire Authority has now been given two to three years to move to a new location after earlier being given only three months by owners Damodar Yatu Lau Pte Limited to vacate the property.

NFA CEO Puamau Sowane says after an uproar from the residents and raising his serious concerns with fijivillage News, he received a call from Damodar Group CEO Div Damodar who gave them the extension.

Sowane says he is now waiting for an official notice of extension from the company.

He says as planned, they will begin work on the new fire station in Makosoi in August.

The CEO is assuring the residents of Navua that even if they had to move to Navua, they would have made sure that they have a strategic plan to ensure that their lives and their properties are safe.

Damodar Group CEO Div Damodar has yet to respond to our questions.

When questioned yesterday, he refused to comment but said they will be holding a press conference on Thursday.
