Great news for the people as Fiji’s first local pharmaceutical manufacturing plant, Pratima Pharmaceutical Industries, named in honour of the mother of Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospitals Founder and CEO Parvish Kumar marks a groundbreaking milestone in the nation's healthcare sector.

The Pharmaceutical Plant has been established at 1 Legalega Road, Nadi (opposite Nadi Airport), conveniently at the hub of the regional gateway.

PSH says as the first locally owned pharmaceutical manufacturing plant venture in the country, it is uniquely positioned to supply essential medicines not only locally but also to the wider Pacific region.

They say this industry has been established with a vision to solve one of the most pressing issues in the healthcare system which is the frequent shortage of vital medicines.

Pratima Pharmaceutical Industries promises to bring consistent, reliable access to much-needed medications across the country, the facility will also invest in ground-breaking research, particularly in the area of herbal medicine, all produced to meet rigorous Australian standards.

This forward-thinking approach blends traditional knowledge with modern pharmaceutical excellence, offering new hope to countless patients.

They say the local production of medicines will significantly reduce dependence on imports and shorten supply chains, ensuring that hospitals and clinics are better equipped to treat patients promptly. PSH says this will create jobs and foster skill development in pharmaceutical sciences right here in Fiji.

PSH CEO Kumar says his mother always believed in helping those in need and naming this industry after her is his way of honouring her legacy and keeping her spirit alive in something that will help save lives.

He says the emotional connection to the project has driven his unwavering commitment to ensuring the plant not only produces medicine but becomes a symbol of hope for families across Fiji and the Pacific.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu says this development, which will result in medicines being manufactured and distributed here in Fiji, will be of great economic benefit to the Government and the Health Sector in Fiji.

Lalabalavu says the Ministry is supportive of such initiatives that grow the private health sector in Fiji and strengthen the role of the public and private health systems in delivering timely healthcare service to the people while building resilience in the health system for the future.

He says the project will also create local jobs during the construction of the manufacturing plant, and in the long term, foreign revenue through the export of medicines abroad.

The Minister adds that Pratima Pharmaceutical Industries, a sister company of PSH, will also have the capacity to conduct medicine testing and medicine research and development, making it one of the first of its kind in the Pacific.
