The PNG Defence Force has confirmed that none of its personnel were involved in the storming of the National Parliament yesterday over APEC allowance payments for the Joint Security Task Force members.

Legend FM PNG reports The Operational Commander of the PNGDF Joint Task Force Colonel Ezekia Wenzel said it was only factions of the Police and Correctional Services personnel that stormed parliament destroying government properties.

Local media are reporting that many schools, businesses and government offices chose to close early because of the unrest.

Some rioting and looting has also broken out in parts of the city and gunshots can clearly be heard in videos posted on social media.

This is a developing story.
