Prime Minister and Minister for Environment Sitiveni Rabuka will officially declare 18th of March as National Plastic Free Day during the Global Recycling Day celebrations in Denarau.

This was highlighted by the Pacific Recycling Foundation founder Amitesh Deo while launching two initiatives for the 2023 Global Recycling Day with Tourism Fiji, Pacific Energy, Swire Shipping and FNU.

Deo says this day is a call to all Fijians to refrain from using plastic and create awareness of its harmful effects on the environment.

The second campaign is the initiative to wear a lapel pin to show solidarity and a commitment to support PRF’s recycling programs.

While speaking at the campaign launch, Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill highlighted the significance of collaboration with PRF and Pacific Energy stating the tourism industry has various initiatives to offer visitors, who can also contribute to efforts in conserving Fiji’s environment, preserving its nature, and uphold its cultural heritage.

They expect more than 200 people to be part of the Global Recycling Day.
