There is a need to combat the rise of Non-Communicable Diseases which has become a national emergency, causing over 84 percent of deaths annually in Fiji.

This has been highlighted by Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka during the launch of the National Policy on Health Catering and Sales of Food and Beverages for all government ministries.

Rabuka says as a nation we need to invest in our children's health and education and with the ongoing project by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Civil Service it will bring a change in our daily lives.

The Prime Minister says this project is to promote nutrition and foster healthy eating habits not only for the civil servants but for the nation.

He further says the policy will ensure that meals, snacks and beverages available to everyone at all government facilities offer healthier choices.

Acting Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor Josese Tudravu says the Coalition Government takes this problem seriously.

Doctor Tudravu says the education of the trainers will empower their work in each ministry to help make health choices available at all government premises.

83 civil servants are attending the training of trainers today and tomorrow.
