PM Bainimarama receives messages from communities around Fiji from Drua

Prime Minister and Incoming COP23 President Voreqe Bainimarama received a delivery of messages from communities around the country from the traditional canoe ‘Drua’ in Denarau.

The messages were brought by the Drua from the communities on a scrolled tapa and was presented on the beach to Fiji’s High‑Level Climate champion Inia Seruiratu.

Seruiratu then presented the message to the incoming President of COP23 Voreqe Bainimarama.

The ceremony of the arrival and the handover connected the people of Fiji to the important work being done at COP23, as well as introduced the visiting delegations some of the cultural ceremonies of Fiji.

The Pre-COP23 will be officially opened in Denarau today with opening remarks from the COP22 President Salaheddine Mezouar, the UN Deputy Secretary, Amina J. Mohamed and incoming COP23 President Voreqe Bainimarama.
