Over 220,000 people to be assisted with Government’s $50 cash payment today

More than 220,000 Fijians in Viti Levu will receive their $50 government assistance by this afternoon with a total payout of $11 million.

This has been confirmed by the Acting Permanent Secretary for Economy, Shiri Gounder who says applications for the assistance has closed.

Gounder says further details on this will be released later.

The assistance was specifically targeting those individuals in the informal sector and those who are not getting any other form of assistance through FNPF and the government collaboration regarding unemployment benefits.

More than one member from a family was eligible to apply for the assistance.
