More than 200 tourism operators have joined the Care Fiji Commitment program.

The program which was launched in October last year ensures tourism businesses adopt enhanced safety standards by upskilling operators in COVID-19 mitigation practices and protocols to ensure traveller safety.

Tourism Fiji Acting CEO Robert Thompson says with the current COVID-19 outbreak impacting businesses across Fiji, it is encouraging to see how well prepared the tourism operators are in having their COVID-19 Safe plans and practices ready.

A total of 243 tourism operators have nominated Wellness Ambassadors to represent them, with 210 gaining access and 186 completing the Care Fiji Commitment training.

Thompson says the Care Fiji Commitment programme is supporting operators to mitigate COVID-related risks and have the right contingencies in place.

He says this has helped to reduce the amount of work that businesses have to do to respond accordingly to the current outbreak.

Thompson says the program has also added a new module on vaccines to its learning platform and operators will now include vaccine-related information in their COVID-19 Safe Action Plans.

Tourism Fiji has also developed a simplified application template for Care Fiji Commitment-approved operators to submit as a mandatory COVID-Safe Plan to the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport when applying to operate as a non-essential business.
