Hollywood's biggest stars are in Los Angeles for the 96th Oscars, hosted this year by comedian Jimmy Kimmel.

Oppenheimer's first award of the evening goes to Robert Downey Jr, who wins best supporting actor.

The Holdovers star Da’Vine Joy Randolph wins best supporting actress.

Anatomy of a Fall wins best original screenplay, while American Fiction scoops the adapted screenplay gong. Both films are nominated in five categories.

Three early awards go to Poor Things for best production design, make-up and costume design, while War is Over and The Boy and the Heron win in the animated films categories.

The favourite for best picture is Oppenheimer, which has 13 nominations and could become one of the biggest winners of all time.

Its star Cillian Murphy is the man to beat for best actor - while Lily Gladstone could become the first ever Native American to win best actress for Killers of the Flower Moon.

Also up for awards are Maestro, Past Lives, The Zone of Interest, as well as last year's top grossing film – Barbie.
