One shop in Nausori town was closed by the Health Ministry’s Food Unit, and four prominent retail outlets were issued with abatement notices after they were found to be non-compliant with sanitary conditions and hygienic practices.

The Health Ministry says their Food Unit conducted surveillance operations in Nausori for the last two weeks.

They say retail outlets may reopen once compliance measures are adhered to after inspection by the Food Unit team.

The Ministry is urging all food business operators that have been issued with abatement notices to adhere to it and make an effort to comply and improve their service delivery to the public.

They say more than 60 food premises were inspected during the Nausori Operations, including retail, street vendors, canteens and wholesalers.

The Ministry says in the coming weeks, the team will also be covering Navua and Korovou.

The Ministry also acknowledges the support rendered by health officials from the Municipal Councils in the execution of this operation.
