One person dead after avalanche in Canterbury

One person has died following an avalanche in Mid Canterbury today.
Rescue pilot Dan McPherson told Stuff a group of people heli-skiing had been saved, but, “unfortunately, one person died”.
McPherson said a person caught in the avalanche was recovered and transported to Christchurch Hospital, but they could not be saved.
Emergency services were called to the incident in the Mt Arrowsmith area shortly after midday today.
