The police officer who was alleged to have assaulted a man in Nausori late last month has been charged and will appear in the Nausori Magistrates Court today.

Police say the officer has been charged with one count of Act Intended to Cause Grievous Harm.

A post on social media claims the man, who was allegedly assaulted had reported to the police officer that his brother had been punched.

It is alleged that instead of helping the man out, the officer put him in the vehicle and hit him on the head then continued to beat him at the station.

The Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew earlier said officers are constantly reminded to uphold the rule of law in the execution of their duties as they are all equally answerable to the law.
