A new head coach for the Fiji National Men’s Football team will be named soon.
This was revealed by Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel, who confirmed that interest in the position has been overwhelming, with 38 applicants vying for the role.
Patel says that after a careful review, six candidates have been shortlisted for the final round of interviews.
He emphasised a strict condition for the appointment: the successful candidate must be based in Fiji.
The President explained that in the past, national coaches were based overseas and only came in occasionally, which he said did not serve the players or the country’s football development goals.
Patel adds that Fiji needs full-time commitment.
The interviews are expected to take place in the coming weeks, with the official appointment to follow shortly thereafter.
