A new generator that was donated to the villagers of Nabutautau by the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation will be set up at their community hall for students to utilize during their study program from 7.00 to 9.00 every night.

This was highlighted by the Village Headman Filimoni Nawawabalavu who says that the assistance by the Ministry could not have come at a better time as majority of the children have not started school and are being taught at home.

Nawawabalavu says the generator will also be used as a back-up during a natural disaster and will most definitely assist their women's group in their income generation projects.

While handing over the new generator, Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar says the handing over of the new generator, five water purifiers and personal protective equipment is evidence of the continued commitment of the Fijian Government towards the village’s development and the empowerment of women.

She highlighted that access to basic utilities like electricity remains the main focus for the Fijian Government in efforts to ensure that rural communities are not left behind in terms of development opportunities.

Akbar says they are grateful to the All China Women’s Federation, who through the Embassy of China in Fiji donated the generator.
