A new format will be followed in the 45th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s that will be held at the ANZ Stadium next week.

Tournament Coordinator Koli Korovulavula says the card system will allow organisers to reduce discipline issues on the field and if a team does not receive a card during their match, they will be awarded a bonus point.

He says they will only set the first match for each team in their pools and the other fixtures will be decided based on the results of the first match.

Korovulavula adds the winning teams in the same pool will face each other in the second round but in the third round, the winning team from one pool will face the winning team from another pool.

He highlighted that at the end of the pool games, the 16 teams will be identified and will compete in the elimination rounds.

Twelve pools of four teams will compete in the main competition, two in the women's competition and four pools for the Under 21 competition.

Some teams that have confirmed their spot for the Marist 7s include Marist, Life After Rugby team, Jussi Buinivai, Lami Cavaliers, Bua K9 Barbarians, Tabadamu, Army and Police Blue.

The Marist 7s will be held from next Thursday to Saturday at the ANZ Stadium.
