The newly constructed fence at the Vatukarasa Markaz in Sigatoka, funded through the Multi-Ethnic Grant Programme, will provide enhanced security, improved cleanliness, and peace of mind for the local Muslim community.
President of the Vatukarasa Markaz, Nansan Ali expressed his gratitude to the Coalition Government and the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs for their timely support.
He says the community used to face difficulties in protecting the Markaz as stray animals often dirtied the prayer area, and devotees frequently struggled when coming to perform prayers.
He adds that this fencing is more than just a project — it gives the community dignity, cleanliness, and peace of mind.
While speaking at the ceremony, the Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Charan Jeath Singh emphasised the Government’s commitment to empowering communities and safeguarding important cultural and religious spaces.
He says the fencing of the Vatukarasa Markaz is more than just a boundary; it symbolises respect, protection, and dignity for the Muslim community in Vatukarasa.
The project was a joint effort between the Ministry, which provided $7,000 worth of fencing materials, and the Vatukarasa Markaz Committee, which contributed approximately $2,500 in labour.
The Minister reaffirmed the Coalition Government’s dedication to inclusive development, ensuring that all communities in Fiji, regardless of faith or ethnicity, can live and thrive in peace, dignity, and harmony.
