Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and MInister for Education with members of Gujarat Education Society and old scholars.

More than 900 students of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School will benefit from their new complex which was opened by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama today.

The cost of the complex is in excess of $5 million.

Gujarat Education Society of Fiji President Kamlesh Kumar says the complex includes new labs with modern equipment as well as a new library and extra classrooms for technical drawing and other classes.

Kumar says with the additional classrooms, the school will be able to place an additional stream of classes in the future which would increase the student capacity at the school.

He adds the completion of this project was a major challenge for them where the biggest obstacle was funding.

Kumar says they have used a lot of their reserve funds for this project and have also received donations from individuals but majority of the funding has been provided by a loan from the Bred Bank.

The Prime Minister said while we celebrate the opening of this facility, it is the people of the school who will deliver quality education.

Bainimarama says they depend on schools to produce citizens who think of themselves based on what they learn and experience in school.

He adds the single greatest over-arching goal of the government has been to create one Fiji and to wipe out for all time the divisions of race and faith that had held us back for so long.
