Vuaki Village in Yasawa seeks assistance after food sources destroyed by TC Vaianu

Villagers of Vuaki in Yasawa urgently need food assistance after Tropical Cyclone Vaianu destroyed their plantations earlier this week.

While speaking to fijivillage News, village headman of Vuaki, Etuate Saukuru says while no lives were lost and no homes were badly damaged, the cyclone severely impacted their food supply and damaged bathrooms and toilets.

He says prior to the cyclone, villagers had taken precautionary measures, including securing homes, installing shutters, and removing solar panels.

Saukuru says the villagers are now relying on whatever food remains on the island and is requesting urgent food rations to assist them through the month.

We are currently trying to speak to the National Disaster Risk Management Office about this issue.
