The new President of the Fiji Bus Operators Association Richard Lal says there are both external and internal challenges that need to be addressed urgently.

He has also urged bus operators to bury personal interests and differences for the good of the bus industry, together taking the industry in the right direction.

The Fiji Bus Operators Association elected unopposed new office bearers at its annual general meeting in Suva yesterday.

Zane Dean is the Senior Vice President while Virendra Kewal is the second Vice President.

Rohit Latchan was returned unopposed as General Secretary for his 14th term.

He is assisted by Edwin Chand and Arun Lal.

Ritesh Nair was elected Treasurer and is assisted by Rohinil Chand and David Khan.

The other Executive Committee members elected were Ajit Singh, Jack Kumar, Rajendra Prasad, Nisar Ali Shah who is the former President and Ricky Kumar.

The Association says the members at the AGM renewed their commitment to work for the betterment of the entire industry and were encouraged by the outcomes of their advocacy work for the industry, the most notable being the bus fare increase that should go some way to addressing the high operational and regulatory costs for bus companies.
