Residents of the Bila community in Nadi can now benefit from safer and more reliable transportation following the official opening of the Bila Community Road Access.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Sakiasi Ditoka says the new road access is expected to significantly improve daily life for residents by enhancing connectivity, reducing travel time, and providing easier access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and markets.
Ditoka highlighted that improving rural infrastructure is not only a development goal but a necessity to ensure that no Fijian is left behind.
He stressed that roads, footpaths, and footbridges play a crucial role in the lives of rural communities, where over 40 percent of the nation’s population resides.

He adds that this is more than just a road — it is a pathway to opportunity, inclusivity, and resilience for our rural people.
The Minister acknowledged the United Nations Development Programme for its financial support of over $150,000 through the Governance for Resilient Development Programme, which made the successful completion of the project possible.
He urged community members to work smart and work together, emphasising that collective action is key to long-term development.
He says that this kind of work cannot be done in isolation — only when we come together can we build better, smarter, and stronger.
