People can expect an improved and better range of services from the Ba Hospital following the commissioning of the new hospital.

While speaking at the opening, Minister for Health, Doctor Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu says the new 70-bed Ba Hospital now has two operating theatres, a fully operational CT scan machine, a medical laboratory that can conduct a wide range of tests in Biochemistry, Haematology, Serology, Microbiology, and blood banking capability, and a new 20-berths mortuary. He says Ba Hospital is the product of the Public and Private Partnership between the Fiji Government and the Health Care Fiji (Pte) Limited.

Fiji and Health Care Fiji (Pte) Ltd was established in 2019 by its two shareholders, the Fiji National Provident Fund as the major shareholder, and Aspen Medical Pty Ltd which signed the agreement to manage, operate, and enhance tertiary healthcare services at the Lautoka Hospital and the new Ba Hospital.

Dr Lalabalavu says the newly transformed Ba Hospital, previously a limited primary care facility, now features modern infrastructure, including a state-of-the-art surgical operating theatre and comprehensive inpatient services.

He says the hospital has implemented a Quality and Patient Safety Department to drive clinical improvements and ensure ongoing patient safety and established Electronic Management Systems for both Radiology and Laboratory services.

The Minister says in addition to its outpatient services to the people of Ba, the expanded capacity has allowed the hospital to provide surgical operations and post-operative care, reduce the average patient length of stay in the hospital to less than 4 days, and ensure that patients in need of ongoing medical attention receive the highest standard of care from dedicated healthcare professionals.

He says both the Ba and Lautoka Hospitals are on track for international accreditation under the world-renowned US-based Joint Commission Internal or JCI program.

Dr Lalabalavu says the opening of the Ba Hospital marks a new era in the Government’s commitment to providing high-quality healthcare for our citizens, and he is confident that it will have a profound and positive impact on the community.

He is encouraging the people of Ba to make the most of the health services that the hospital can provide for the betterment of their health and asks that they look after and support the hospital and the dedicated staff who help the people and take good care of them.
