The villagers of Navunikabi in Namosi have presented their petition against the proposed hydro dam in Namosi to Opposition MP, Jone Usamate.

They also tried to present another petition to the Prime Minister.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Usamate says he received a letter and is aware of the development plans to construct the dam in Namosi.

Usamate says since the letter was addressed to the Leader of the Opposition, they will wait for his response before meeting as an Opposition group to discuss the way forward.

He also highlighted while the development will have environmental impacts, the developers must carefully consider the consequences to avoid harming the environment.

Usamate adds while the government needs to fulfill its development plans, it must also ensure that no harmful activities are carried out against the environment.

The second petition was delivered to the Office of the Prime Minister earlier today.
