Nausori Chamber of Commerce Executive Member, Ishad Ali

The executives of the Nausori Chamber of Commerce have handed a signed petition to the Minister for Local Government requesting the Government to stop the construction of a nightclub in Manoca, Nausori.

Nausori Chamber of Commerce Executive Member, Ishad Ali says setting up a nightclub in an industrial area that is next to a residential area is wrong.

He says residents are already facing problems with drunkards, and if this business is approved, it will add more work to the Police Force and crime.

Ali says hundreds of residents don’t want a nightclub in their area, and they are calling for the authority to act.

Nausori Chamber of Commerce President Pravin Chandra says their main concern at the moment is the new nightclub coming up in Manoca, and the Nausori Town Council, ratepayers, and residents have signed a petition against this.

He says they are not saying that people should not operate a nightclub, however, they are saying that it is being operated at the wrong location.

Special Administrator of Nausori and Nasinu Town Council Uma Kant Patel says they have received objections from residents.

He says his personal view is that it is not in the right place.

Patel says there is a process to follow for setting up businesses, and this project was recently advertised in the newspapers for objections and he is urging ratepayers to file their objections since the objection period time is not yet over.

Minister for Local Government Maciu Nalumisa confirms he has received the petition.
