Businesses in Nausori Town say they have already seen big changes in policing operations since they raised their concerns about criminal activities through the media and a meeting between the Nausori Chamber of Commerce, the Nausori Town Council and Police.

The Nausori Chamber of Commerce says police have confirmed that a Special Unit will be assigned to take drug peddlers to task and they have already arrested a few last Wednesday.

It says police have also increased foot patrols in red zone areas and are also targetting potential prostitution and unnecessary loitering by girls.

Three CCTV cameras have already been installed in red zone areas around Nausori Town.

Three more CCTV cameras are expected to be installed soon.

Drones will also be used by Police for random surveillance around the central business district.

A command vehicle has also been deployed in Nausori Town to assist with operations there.

Cameras are installed in the command vehicle and it is linked up to their Command Centre to allow officers to monitor activities on the ground in real-time.

Police are yet to confirm how many arrests have been made in Nausori Town since the meeting last Wednesday but we have been told that a lot of people have been cautioned in recent days for unnecessary loitering along Syria Park and Brown Lane.

These two locations are red zone areas in Nausori Town where homemade bongs used for smoking marijuana have been found.

Spokesperson Ana Naisoro says they will having another meeting on Thursday with the Nausori Town Council and Chamber of Commerce to provide a briefing on the developments.
