Following concerns raised by residents of Lyth Street in Davuilevu Housing regarding a large pile of rubbish collected at the roundabout, the Nausori Town Council has confirmed that the rubbish has been picked up.

A resident says the rubbish was not picked up in the last three weeks and was becoming a real nuisance as dogs had scattered dirty diapers on his driveway.

He says concerns were raised with Nausori Town Council, however, no action was taken.

While responding to questions by fijivillage News, Nausori Town Council Manager Community Services, Jitendra Singh says the collection of garbage for the area is scheduled for two days a week which are Tuesdays and Fridays.

He says this garbage is placed outside the picking schedule and are mostly dumped during the weekend however, the council collects all garbage on the scheduled days.

Singh says the garbage was collected but the council had to make special arrangements to collect it outside collection schedule which is an additional cost to them.

The Manager says their collection team has been doing this for a while now as illegal dumping continues despite conducting house to house awareness in the area.

He says this dumping is mostly done by the informal settlement at the back of Lyth Street.

Singh says the council will meet the community to discuss the option of the placement of skip bins.
