With 22 months remaining until the 2027 Rugby World Cup, the timing of the Nations Cup has been ideal for preparing and developing both the players and the team ahead of the tournament in Australia.

FIJI Water Flying Fijians coach Mick Byrne highlighted this today.

Byrne says that if Fiji progresses through all its pool matches and advances into the final-16 format, the team will likely face one of the top Northern Hemisphere sides in the quarterfinals.

He says their potential opponents at that stage could be Ireland, France, or Scotland.

Byrne adds that this is an excellent opportunity to assess the opposition and start preparing for them, which is the real value of having the pool match schedule announced early.

When questioned whether they will consider playing Argentina if the Pumas wanted a test match before the World Cup, Byrne says there is no need for them to go outside the test window in preparation for the World Cup.

The Rugby World Cup will be held from October 1st to November 13th 2027.
