Good news for Fijians as Cabinet has endorsed the National Privacy and Personal Data Protection Policy, which provides a comprehensive framework to safeguard personal information and uphold privacy rights in Fiji.
The policy establishes clear safeguards for the processing of sensitive and personal data, ensuring individuals are protected from misuse while strengthening data protection for children’s information.
The Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says it also lays the foundation for the development of a National Privacy and Personal Data Protection legislation, a crucial step in modernising Fiji’s approach to data governance and digital trust.
Rabuka says in addition, Fiji will take steps to accede to the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data (Convention 108+), aligning national efforts with international standards.
