National Council for Persons with Disabilities receive $1.2m worth of assistive devices

Fiji Spinal Injury Association Executive Director Josko Wakaniyasi says this is the second consigment that has arrived from the UK this year and he has thanked Physionet for their assistance.

There is further support for people living with disabilities as a volunteer group from the UK, Physionet has given nearly $1.2 million worth of assistive devices to the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.

The items include wheelchairs, standing frames, children’s walkers, wheeled commodes, support rails, shower chairs, crutches, and bed rails.

Fiji Spinal Injury Association Executive Director Josko Wakaniyasi says this is the second consigment that has arrived from the UK this year and he has thanked Physionet for their assistance.

He says people with disabilities have been severely affected by COVID-19 and the recent cyclones and the assistance is very valuable for them.

Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Veena Bhatnagar says as per the recent census, 13.7 percent of our population is living with atleast one functional challenge.
