Government backbencher Sanjay Kirpal says the 2021/2022 National Budget has been welcomed by vast majority of stakeholders except the Opposition who have forgotten the initiatives such as tax concessions, free education, free medicine and unemployment benefits.

He says there is also good news for market vendors, taxi, minibus, carrier and bus operators as the Government will be paying their stall and base fees.

Kirpal says the Opposition has always been politicizing the sugar industry for their own gain however during this pandemic, the Government is giving $85 guaranteed cane price for a tonne for two years although the forecast price is $54.36 per tonne for this year.

He then said the Opposition was making noise for the Government to cut salaries of the civil servants not realising how the front-liners are working day and night to keep people safe from COVID-19.
