133 newly inducted prefects of Natabua High School have been reminded that being a prefect is not just about wearing the badge, it’s about embodying the values of the school and setting a positive example for their peers.

Netani Solo Kepa and Shreya Shail have been appointed as Head Boy and Head Girl respectively.

While speaking at the induction this morning, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro says their badge is a recognition of their responsibility to lead by example and to contribute positively to the school.

While congratulating the young leaders, Radrodro says their role is to encourage their fellow students to get involved in all aspects of school life, from academics to extracurricular activities and lead by example, be the voice for their peers, and always strive to maintain a high standard of behavior, both in and out of school.

He has also reminded students, teachers, parents and all the key stakeholders that education is not just the responsibility of schools and teachers, but a shared effort that includes parents, the community, and local leaders.

Radrodro says together, they can tackle the challenges children face, such as non-communicable diseases, poverty, gender-based violence, school dropouts, mental health issues, cyberbullying, and teenage pregnancy.

He says as a country, we are also dealing with the growing problem of drug and substance abuse.

The Education Minister says drugs destroy lives, and we must act now to address it.

He says to solve these problems, strong cooperation between teachers, students, and parents is needed.

Radrodro also commended the school for prioritizing inclusive education by enrolling disadvantaged and academically challenged students, significantly reducing dropouts.

He labelled the school as flagship government school and challenged the student leaders to help lift the standards even higher.
