Nasinu Town Council workers were all smiles after receiving their bonus in time for Christmas.

This is after they received a sick leave bonus utilising all their sick days that were not taken in the year paid out by the Council making the holiday season brighter for many families.

The bonus was made possible through an agreement between the workers' union and the Council, with strong support from the coalition government.

Council Chairman Felix Magnus says the bonus was part of a deal signed earlier this year as part of the union memorandum of understanding that was signed off earlier this year.

He says this payment was based on a union claim lodged earlier in the year, and after discussions, the Council's board approved the agreement, including the bonus, as a way to reward the hard work of its employees.

Magnus says they are happy that they can take this money back to their families, especially during Christmas as it shows they care for their workers welfare.

For workers like Sale Yabaki, a market attendant, the bonus was life-changing and something he was not expecting.

This bonus is a sign of the Nasinu Town Council’s commitment to looking after its workers ensuring they have a joyful Christmas after a year of hard work.
