Chiefs coach Clayton McMillan may be forced to scrub Fiji born Chiefs winger Emoni Narawa from his team ahead of the all-important match against the Highlanders in Dunedin on Friday night.
Narawa had to go to hospital with a nasty facial wound during the Chiefs' 85-7 win over Moana Pasifika in Hamilton on Saturday night, a result of Patrick Pellegrini striking him in the head with his shoulder mid-way through the first half.
Moana Pasifika first five-eighth Pellegrini was yellow carded.
Referee James Doleman says it wasn't upgraded because of a change of dynamics due to another player.
The Chiefs were in a controlled fury as they went about their work, scoring 13 tries to their opponents' one.
A title will be the ultimate farewell present for McMillan.
Narawa will hope to return to his spot on the right edge of the Chiefs' backline ahead of the final round-robin game against the Highlanders, but given the nature of his wound, he may have to be cautious.
Doctors who work with professional rugby teams are renowned for being very capable with a needle and thread, but McMillan said Narawa was instructed to leave the stadium to get his face repaired.
McMillan will hope Narawa makes a swift recovery as the Chiefs attempt to secure top spot ahead of the playoffs.
The Highlanders host the Chiefs Friday at 7.05pm at Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin.
In other matches, the Crusaders play the Brumbies at 9.35pm Friday, the Blues meet the Waratahs at 4.35pm Saturday, the Hurricanes face Moana Pasifika at 7.05pm Saturday while the Reds play the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua at 9.35pm.
