The villagers of Naqaidamu in Koro have raised concerns about individuals who are intoxicated and fail to follow village rules.
While speaking to fijivillage News, Village Headman Ropate Vakaciwa says the village warriors are reluctant to carry out their traditional role of protecting the village, as doing so could lead to legal consequences.
Vakaciwa says there is a noticeable lack of unity and cooperation in the village, which is reflected in the behaviour of its residents.
He adds that, as the Headman, he has personally observed the breakdown in communal support and responsibility.
Vakaciwa also highlighted that during village meetings, only 17 people usually attend, indicating poor participation and interest in village matters.
He is now urging the government to look into strengthening village by-laws to better protect those living in Naqaidamu.
