The Namosi Joint Venture has requested for the renewal of its Special Prospecting License for another three years however majority of the villagers of Namosi and Waidina do not agree with the renewal of the license due to the massive impact on the environment and the people of Namosi.

Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo says according to the venture, this extension will be the final lap to decide on whether to proceed with the mining in Namosi or not.

Vosarogo says the renewal of its Special Prospecting License is currently on hold by the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources and more consultation is required to be held with the Mataqali o Nabukebuke Namosi and also with the people of Namosi.

The license was due for renewal in August.
