Residents of Namadi Heights and Mead Road are demanding for answers from the government and Water Authority of Fiji as they are struggling to cope with a severe water crisis, with no supply for over a week.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Shammi Narayan, a 63-year-old resident of Namadi Heights, says they had low water pressure for a month and there has been no water since the weekend.

She says Sunday night, it came for an hour and then stopped again.

Narayan says no water tanks have been supplied by the Water Authority but they have sent water trucks and as an elderly person, she cannot carry buckets to a double-story house.

She says they cannot flush toilets, wash clothes or clean the house.

She adds that she is working and urges WAF to provide water during peak hours so they can get their chores done.

Narayan says two of her workmates could not report to work because of no water supply.

Mead Road resident Shalendra Prakash says they have no water tanks and have been forced to use rainwater for drinking and daily use.

The 49-year-old says there is no safe drinking water and it is getting difficult for the members in the family to go to work.

Prakash urges WAF to at least provide water tanks in their area.

When contacted, the Water Authority of Fiji says they are working to maximize water production at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant following improved weather conditions.

They say strategic valve operations will continue overnight to restore reservoir levels and improve supply by this morning.

WAF warns that significant rainfall could impact raw water turbidity and treatment processes.
