A total of 17 people have been left homeless after a fire in Dilo Street in Naulu, Nakasi destroyed a shop, bakery and three homes around midday yesterday.

The National Fire Authority says the top flat was occupied by the owner whilst the bottom flat contained a bakery and a shop.

They say the high content of flammable materials such as gas tanks in the shop and bakery contributed to the quick spread of the fire to two neighboring homes which were destroyed.

NFA says the fire had started from the bakery area of the building which was vacant at the time of the incident.

NFA Chief Executive Officer, Puamau Sowane says it is understood a very late call was made to inform their call center.

He says there were no injuries reported in the fire incident.

NFA is investigating to ascertain the cause of the fire incident.
