Despite facing challenges, including a lack of support from her family for participating in rugby, a male-dominated sport, Vika Nakacea remained determined and continued to strive for a brighter future in the sport.

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s extended squad member attended Ba Provincial Free Bird Institute and left school in Year 13 to pursue a rugby career.

The 25-year-old says she started her rugby career in rugby league, moved to rugby union, and eventually, to 7s rugby two years ago.

Nakacea says most of the time when she cannot afford bus fare to training, she usually walks to Nadovu Ground. S

She says she was happy to be selected as part of the Fijiana 7s squad extended squad that is preparing for the upcoming Dubai 7s.

Nakacea is encouraging rugby aspiring women to remain resilient and continue striving for a better future, urging them never to give up.

The final 13-member squad for the Dubai 7s is expected to be named this afternoon and the team will leave our shores on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Dubai 7s will be held from next Saturday to Monday December 2nd.

The Fijiana 7s will take on Ireland at 5.44pm next Saturday in their first pool match, they will then play Australia at 9.05pm next Saturday and they will then play China at 1.13am next Sunday morning.

The women’s cup quarter finals will kick off at 5.20pm next Sunday, the semi finals will start at 9.12pm next Sunday and the cup final will be at 3.35am Monday 2nd December.
