Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has announced that the Nadi Airport taxi drivers will now be eligible for the $220 unemployment benefit which is paid by the government.

Sayed-Khaiyum says they have been accessing the airports and they have identified that the Nadi Airport taxi drivers are the worst hit.

He says some of them are now just making $5 a day.

The Minister says they will be paid out on a fortnightly basis as well.

Sayed-Khaiyum says they also hope to make an announcement about the Nausori taxi drivers very soon as well, following some assessments that are being done.

He says they have seen an increase in traffic at the Nausori Airport.

Sayed-Khaiyum says once the assessment is done then they will be able to make some announcements on whether they will receive the full $220 or a partial amount.
