About 100 farms in Nabitu, Sigatoka have been destroyed because of heavy rain and flooding in the past week and farmers are requesting the government to provide some seeds to help them get back up on their feet.

Nabitu Advisory Councillor Abhay Singh says flood waters have receded and the roads were closed for about a week due to heavy rain.

In an interview with fijivillage News, Singh says Nabitu is close to the river and farms have been destroyed due to flooding and those in the upper area have been severely damaged by heavy rain and seeds have washed away.

He says farmers had planted some off-season vegetables but it has all washed away in the heavy rain and floods and now they do not have any source of income.

Singh says they do not have electricity or water supply and roads in and around Nabitu are also flooded right now.

He says there are three canteens in the neighbourhood but only one has some food items left.

He says a funeral that was supposed to be held yesterday in Kavanagasau has been postponed to Thursday due to a flooded crossing.
