The Fiji Muslim League has strongly refuted the statement by Opposition MP Alvick Maharaj in Parliament that there are lots of versions of Holy Quran.

The Muslim League says the Quran is the final holy book of the Muslims and will remain unchanged.

Maharaj made the statement during the debate on the 2013 Constitution Amendment Bill.

The MP apologised to the Muslim community in Parliament this morning.

He informed Parliament that some people have contacted him to correct him that there is just one version of the Quran.

Maharaj, during the Constitution Amendment Bill on Tuesday stated that they are not saying no to the changing of Constitution and are not saying do not change the Constitution and gave an example that in Hinduism there are two versions of holy book Ramayana namely, Tulsidas Ramcharitmanas and Valmiki Ramayana, Christianity has Old Testament and New Testament while in Islam there are a lot of versions of Quran as well.

The Opposition MP said they are not saying that any particular book is perfect, it comes with a lifetime and when the lifetime ends, we need to change it.
