More women are now starting their own businesses after 45% of females have applied for the concessional loan under the Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises grant.

Business Assistance Fiji Chairperson Dr Nur Bano Ali says they have seen from the 7,000 successful applicants they have assessed, 45 percent are women.

She says the government has paid out close to $40 million in concessional loans to successful applicants which the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service is now monitoring for them.

Ali says they are working closely with Business Link Pacific, a New Zealand Government funded program, in assisting MSMEs in various ways by providing subsidised fast professional services for the improvement of Businesses.

She adds MSMEs are the future of Fiji, so its an area we should direct our energy.
