More than 6,000 families in the Suva and Nausori lockdown areas have so far been assisted through government’s food assistance program.

Ministry of Economy Coordinator Kamal Gounder says they have received more than 26,000 applications so far and are aiming to assist around 12,000 families by the end of today.

Today is the last day for the distribution.

Gounder says they are currently in the process of cleaning up their data because they are receiving requests from families who have already been assisted as other members are applying using different numbers.

He adds another challenge at the moment is that people are not giving their full details when applying which makes it difficult for the team to locate them.

Gounder says they have also involved the Fiji Police Force to ensure people do not come out of their homes to receive the packs which was a concern in some areas yesterday.

Dial *161# if you live in Suva and Nausori and genuinely require emergency food supply.

Please provide your name and street address to allow the Ministry to locate you quickly.
