More than 2.4M COVID-19 infections worldwide, with more than 166,000 deaths

There are now more than 2.4 million COVID-19 infections worldwide, with more than 166,000 deaths.

The US now has 766,212 cases and 40,905 deaths.

A further 449 deaths in UK hospitals have been confirmed, bringing total there to 16,509.

For the first time, Italy has recorded a one-day fall in the number of people currently infected while Spain's daily death toll falls below 400.

Here in the region, Papua New Guinea has 7 confirmed cases and no deaths while New Caledonia has 18 confirmed cases.

French Polynesia has 55 confirmed cases.

New Zealand had 1, 440 confirmed cases and 12 deaths while Australia has 6,547 cases and 67 cases.
