More than 10 businesses in Labasa Town have closed down due to COVID-19

The President of the Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Satish Kumar says more than 10 businesses in Labasa Town have closed down due to COVID-19.

They include small retail shops, second-hand clothing shops, and salons.

Kumar says close to 100 staff were laid off due to the impacts of COVID-19 and they are slowly returning to work with their working hours normalising as well.

He adds some staff have also been laid off due to the no jab no job policy.

Meanwhile, Kumar says there is an increase in business activity however this is still low compared to previous years.

Kumar says with the festive season approaching, businesses are looking forward to an increase in sales.
